DRL Season Points-Leaderboard Example & Discussion

89 posts in this topic

Based on feedback through messages, XBL conversations, and general perspectives from the Season 1 thread; I'm going to try my best to give you guys a rundown of how the points system and leaderboard for our seasons will work. Also so everyone knows, ties will be counted in tournament placement and dirtiest racer placement for this scoring system.

For a recollection of the points system you can view the Season 1 thread right here.

In this example I'll be using one of the last three Halo 4 DRL tournaments, Friday tournament #59.

----------

So, for now, assuming the leaderboard is empty the points total from just above would be what is added to the leaderboard. As you can see even though I won the tournament, Bean05 is ahead mainly because he raced more dirty than I did. And some of the positions are really close thereafter.

The main reason we are deciding to use this system, aside from being easy to use, is because were wanting the more talented drivers to get more dirty, and the more wrecking oriented drivers to get acclimated to being near the front of the pack. :)

You have to perform well on the track and get the most insane wrecks to be at the top of the leaderboard.

I hope this explanation helped everyone understand the system, and I can't wait until the first season starts! :D

Very cool, this makes dirtiness and race position equal, so you can't dominate the score board by being a last place wrecking machine or a first place scaredy cat; nice job!

I'm going to be honest, I'm not a huge supporter of the point system...

Any particular reason why? Does it not seem fair to you?

ITS BECAUSE HE IS NOT A DIRTY BOY AND FEEL HE WILL BE CHEATED OUT OF WINNING STUFF

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume he doesn't see it to be fair because of the fact that for any racer that averages a finish of around 3rd or 4th place generally doesn't get the chance in order to wreck anybody or battle anybody and end up losing precious dirty points. Typically, I find myself in the same scenario because I either avoid a wreck that's already taken place or drivers wreck out and there is no chance unless I want to finish absolutely poorly.

Yes but don't you guys get it, that makes it so you HAVE to try and race well at the top but you also HAVE to be dirty and wreck people, it makes it perfectly fair. Don't change it, Star.

"Agressive Racing" I think would fit the term here more than anything. It's far from dirty and far from clean.

Thanks for the feedback on the system NJD.

For someone who generally averages 3rd or 4th, you could attempt to wreck someone at the start of the race to get some dirty points.

But as stated in the OP, were trying to encourage one side of the spectrum to become acclimated at being adjoined with the other side. Were also trying to keep one side from completely dominating the whole thing. If you based the system on good driving completely; take the scenario where someone averages third or fourth, those people will be at the top. The system is to encourage others at doing the other side (good driving & dirty racing), keep someone from entirely dominating if they are good at one side, and it awards you for doing good in both. Based entirely on good driving doesn't make it fair to the dirty racers and vice versa. Were trying to make it fair for both sides and give both sides a chance.

Small issue: The attention span of drivers in a sprint-like racing environment to remember a wreck early in the race is slim-to-none, I mean, unless you take out 1/2-3/4 of the field. :p
